This would look great blown up, mounted to board and hung above my sofa.

Hand Rolled

Spring Roll / photo-montage

This just makes me want to go out for sushi. I have only used the above rolling mat once for it's yummy sushi-rolling destiny. I like eating sushi rolls better than making sushi rolls. My favorite ingredients are unagi, maguro, sake, avocado, tobiko, and real crab (not Krab).

Mano De Aluminio Bonita

Pretty Aluminum Hand / photograph

Another glove mold from my hand collection! I have photographed each side of the glove mold against two different backgrounds. Two rusted brackets extend from the bottom.

I saw an interesting re-purposed glove mold online several months ago. I searched but can't find it now of course. Brackets held the form to a wall and dangling from the fingers was a working light fixture. The hand above would be great for that purpose. Even one of the porcelain molds would work. So many hands... so little time and even less electrical wiring skills.

Hand-Made Hands Around My House

Hand-Made Hand Pillow/ photograph

My mother turned 80 today! She doesn't really like my hand collection - specifically the glove molds. I think it's the quantity as well as the starkness that make her uncomfortable. That's OK because I really don't like her Hummels. (do not google "Hummels" unless you enjoy little figurines of children made by German nuns)

But mother says she likes the above pillow. Maybe she says that because I made the pillow. Anyway... I love her very much.

Collected & Broken Eggs By Little Hands / photograph

Lessons learned - put lots of padding in basket next time - don't re-hide same six eggs over and over.

Little Hands terrorized Frodo all weekend... Luckily Frodo can run fast.

Easter Bunny Finger Puppet Show

Easter Bunny Finger Puppet Show / vector illustration

I took multiple anatomical liberties with the bunny skull because I wanted the illustration to have a somewhat playful undertone. Happy Easter!

I have a large framed canvas version of this illustration - it's about 4 feet tall.

My Photo Manipulations Of Other People's Hands

Kiss Hand / digitally manipulated photograph of rodin's "the kiss"

I photographed this sculpture at the Tate Gallery, London in 1994 (sans flash)... Great hand - very strong.

Maybe In Some Crazy Alternate Universe...

Pink Crossed Hand Bonez / vector illustration

Sometimes (actually often) I just make stuff that has no purpose... no concept... no direction... This is one of those occasions.

Maybe in some crazy alternate universe, the above symbol could be signage for an Orthopedic Upper Extremity Hand Specialist Clinic just for Women. Or it can live here on my Habitual Hand blog with all the other completely irreverent images.

Twice As Nice

Paired Hands / photograph

At some point, I would like to convert the two hands pictured above into shelf brackets. I think they might be strong enough because they are not ceramic.

Spring Clutch

Hand Clutching A Cute Clutch Purse \ vector illustration

I wish I had a clutch purse like this, as well as a matching bangle bracelet... but I'll pass on the bony bleached hand.

Close Up Of Unglazed Glove Mold Sitting On Books / photography

Why do I have two copies of the same coffee table book? Answer: both were gifts. One is still shrink wrapped... waiting to be re-gifted to someone who will never see this blog (that means almost anyone).

Hand Of A Mini Sock Monkey

Hand Of A Mini Sock Monkey / scanned image

Not much differentiation between the hand, foot and the tail of the common sock monkey. The inspiration for this post came form Ange from at The Daily Turtle. I have a bigger hand-made sock monkey that I intend to feature at a later date.

Yes - my bejeweled bangle reads "Love Bites"... Happy Friday!

Smooth But Still Scary (Part Three Of Three)

Scary Flamin' Hand \ vector illustration

Step three of three: the pixel based image from step two has been imported into vector software (Adobe illustrator CS5). An auto trace function was manipulated to smooth edges and simplify form. Individual vector points allow for specific modifications.

Finished illustration still maintains an overall gestural quality and also conveys the mood and emotion of an angry little hand. The smooth bold quality allows for better reduction and a streamlined presentation.

ASL Turtle!

Check out Ange's ASL Turtle on her blog, ~The Daily Turtle~ today... very "handy" to know...

Slightly Refined Scary Flamin' Hand Doodle (Part Two Of Three)

Slightly Refined Scary Flamin' Hand Doodle / doodle

If doodles could bite... this one would need a rabies shot. This doodle has anger management issues.

Step two of three: Still in the doodle stage - just bolder and more scary in my opinion. Bolder lines and increased contrast will make converting this angry little doodle to vector much easier.

Scary Flamin' Hand Doodle (Part One Of Three)

Scary Flamin' Hand Doodle / illustrative doodle

What can I say? Found this in one of my notepads of rough sketches and meeting notes. I must have doodled it last Fall.

Step one of three: scan doodle.

Glove Mold Of Unknown Material

Glove Mold Resting on Green Quilt / photograph

I am not sure what this glove mold is made of... it is not made of porcelain. I have two of these flat dark gray hands. They are very light in weight. They could be a mix of plastic and ceramic. They could be made of a heat tempered polycarbonate. I have no idea.

Another hand from my hand collection... This hand is made of wire, wire mesh and wood. It resides in my office cubicle. The edges are a little on the raw side.

 Nintendo Hand 02 / photograph

Another hand from my hand collection: I am not sure why this molded plastic hand was described as a Nintendo Hand on ebay. Perhaps it was part of a purchasing display. It seems indestructible, which is why I will allow my 2 1/2 year old nephew play with it... he isn't very interested. I guess it's kind of creepy.

Milagro

Milagro / photograph

I need one... Actually I need more than one... coveting milagros is a sure way not to get any. I guess you can "pray" for milagros but you can't covet them.

Moderately Creepy Metal Hand Sans Thumb

Metal Hand Sans Thumb / photograph

Metal Hand Sans Thumb / mov file

This could be a glove mold but I am not sure. I store this semi-creepy hand in a plastic bin deep in the bowels of my garage… it’s made of super heavy aluminum and is missing the thumb – the guy on ebay who I purchased it from said “I sold all the thumbs for scrap metal”
